Summer is the season when the freshness of the plateau area stands out. In addition to the coolness, the scenery such as the spacious dark green meadows makes you feel refreshed.
At the Kiyosato / Seisen dormitory in summer, you can experience various things in such scenery. This is the place where the dairy culture took root in Japan, and it is also the base of dairy farming that still breeds Jersey cattle and other animals. You can not only touch the dairy culture by eating, such as the famous Seisen-ryo soft-serve ice cream, but you can also learn about its history and culture through experience.
Around the meadows with a tractor!
For example, summer hayride. On the premises of Seisen Ryo, there is a large pasture for raising cattle.Hayride drives on a tractor’s bed on this meadow with a sense of openness with open vision.
Behind the vast pastures are mountains such as Yatsugatake, the Southern Alps and Mt. Fuji, so you can enjoy one of the best views in Kiyosato.
It starts on July 27 and runs daily until September 1st. No reservation required, so you can enjoy it casually.
Early morning squeezing experience
For those who want more direct contact with dairy farming, there is also an experience of squeezing cows. In this program, you can go to the Seisenryo Jersey Ranch and visit a barn and experience milking.
Holsteins are the mainstream in Japan today for dairy cows, but Seisenryo has been raising brown cows called jersey cows since its inception. Because jersey cows are strong against rough food and harsh environments. Jersey cows were able to survive even in Kiyosato, where the cold weather was severe and the grass for feeding was difficult to grow.
Jersey cows, which have supported Kiyosato’s dairy farming since the early days of the war, offer very thick and delicious milk, although the amount of milk available is small. You can experience such a jersey cow squeeze with your own hands on this day.
This is held on August 18. Only guests are required to make a reservation, so if you are going to stay at Seisen Dormitory during the Obon season, please join us.
